The school will commence accepting applications for admission on Monday, 11th October 2021. The school shall cease accepting applications for admission on Sunday, 31st October 2021. Below are the links for Kilbride National School's Admissions Notice for 2021, Kilbride National School's Admission Policy and the Admissions Form.
This year we have decided to take part in the Team Hope Christmas Shoe Box Appeal (https://www.teamhope.ie/christmas-shoebox-appeal/how-to-fill-a-shoebox/) Team Hope is an Irish, Christian, International Charity working to help children affected by poverty in Eastern Europe and Africa. We are asking the children to fill a shoebox with gifts for these children. We are sending home an information leaflet today with the children with information of what should be included in each shoebox. Shoeboxes need to be ready for Friday the 5th of November so they can be collected and sent to their recipient in time for Christmas. This is completely optional. If you decide to take part in the appeal one shoebox per family or one per child could be sent in. It is up to parents themselves to decide what they would like to do. We know that from doing this in previous years the children really enjoy putting their little shoebox together and it also helps them to reflect on how lucky they all are to come from such wonderful families themselves.
Clothes Recycling Day
Bags were sent home with the children last Monday. The Clothes Recycling Day, in conjunction with Bag2School, is on Tuesday the 2nd of November. Bags can be brought in to the school and left in the shelter in the yard from Monday 1st of November (after the Halloween break).
Kilbride National School Cookbook 2021
The children, teachers and parents of Kilbride National School have been working very hard at creating a “Kilbride National School Cookery Book 2021”. To date the artwork has been completed and a winner has been chosen in each classroom. It was very difficult to choose but after a difficult judging process the classroom winners are as follows:
Junior Infants - Zoey
Senior Infants- Saoirse
First Class- Lila
Second Class- Kate
Third & Fourth Class- Amelie
Fifth & Sixth Class- Michael
Congratulations to all of the boys and girls in all of the classes for putting in such a huge effort.
Kilbride National School’s Cookbook 2021; Last week all of the teachers worked on procedural writing and modelled how to write a recipe. To date many children, with the help of their older siblings and families, have written and submitted their own family favourite recipe.
FINAL DATE FOR SUBMISSION IS FRIDAY THE 15TH OF OCTOBER- (The template for typed submissions has been again attached to this week’s newsletter, for your convenience.)
- The final recipe for submission should be done at home.
- One recipe per family is plenty but of course more will be welcomed if we have more than one pupil per family in our school.
- If you are just submitting a single recipe a suggestion is that the oldest child in the family decides on the recipe, as they will be doing much of the work, and the younger siblings can contribute.
- To ensure that we get a good variety of recipes we have divided them up as follows:
Junior & Senior Infants - Desserts
First & Second Classes - Starters
Third to Sixth Classes- Mains
Within these categories children can include healthy options recipes, Christmas/ Halloween specials, homemade drinks for children, jams/ marmalades and party options). Cooking tips across any of the categories will also be welcomed.
So how do you submit your families recipe? Using the template form, the chosen recipe can be typed and then emailed to kilbridenspa@gmail.com for the PA to collate. (If typing a recipe is problematic, the PA will gladly accept a hand written recipe and will type out the recipe for inclusion in the Cookery Book. Handwritten recipes can be given to the class teacher to pass on)
Completed recipes must be submitted by 15th October, so they can progress to the printers in order to have the Cookery Book ready for sale in November.
Kilbride National School Cookery Book 2021
The children of Kilbride school will be creating a “Kilbride National School Cookery Book 2021”. The Parents Association (PA) are delighted to assist the children with this project as one of our fundraising initiatives this year. The money raised from this initiative will go towards activities and resources for the children. This will be a wonderful opportunity for each family to contribute a family favourite recipe to this book. The Cookery Book would also be a great Christmas present too!
We could not run this fundraising project without the help of all the teachers in the school. A recipe falls under procedural writing and can be integrated into the curriculum teaching in each class. The class teachers will allocate the various categories of recipes to the children Junior and Senior Infants - Desserts, First and Second Class - Starters & Third to Sixth Class - Main Courses (Within these categories children can include healthy options recipes, Christmas/ Halloween specials, homemade drinks for children, jams/ marmalades and party options). Each family will contribute a family favourite recipe and the childs/children name(s) will be included. One recipe per family, so the oldest child in the family gives the recipe and the younger siblings can contribute by partaking in various art work pieces within the book. We would also be delighted to receive any cooking tips across any of the categories.
A recipe template form has been sent to everyone. The chosen recipe can be typed and then emailed to kilbridenspa@gmail.com for the PA to collate. If typing a recipe is problematic for whatever reason, the PA will gladly accept a hand written recipe and will type out the recipe for inclusion in the Cookery Book. We would really appreciate if recipes could be sent back to us by 15th October, so as we can progress to the printers and hopefully have the Cookery Book ready for sale in November.
An art competition is being held within the school for artwork for the front and back cover of the Cookery Book. As soon as we have the Cook Book ready for sale a letter will be distributed regarding cost of book(s).
Many thanks for your support which will have all the children involved in a really exciting fundraising project together.
