Proclamation Day – Tuesday, 15th March 2016

March 16, 2016admin

We really enjoyed celebrating Proclamation Day yesterday, Tuesday the 15th March 2016. All classes in Kilbride National School have been working really hard the last month in learning all about the Easter Rising 1916. We started off the celebrations with Sixth Class reading out The Proclamation for the New Generation. The Fifth Class then read out the Proclamation that was read by Padraig Pearse outside the GPO on Easter Monday 1916. The whole school then sang Amhrán na bhFiann as we raise the Irish flag. The whole school then went to hall to see all the work that each class had completed on the 1916 Rising. Junior and Senior Infants showed us their Irish flag and they then sang the song “Ireland’s Call”. First and Second read us all a story about what happened during the 1916 Rising. Third and Fourth Class showed their group projects on the 1916 Rising as well as telling the rest of the school some facts about the seven leaders of the 1916 Rising. Finally, Fifth and Sixth Class showed us their individual projects on the 1916 Rising. We also listed off all the children who died during the 1916 Rising and we had a minutes silence for these children and said a special Hail Mary for them. We really enjoyed celebrating today and we are all really proud of our Irish history.
