First and Second Class – Mrs Crosby (2017 / 2018)

We were so lucky to have the Six Nations Cup and the Triple Crown come to Kilbride National School yesterday, Monday the 11th June 2018. The children were so excited to see them. Thank you to everyone involved in organising this for our school! Well done to the Irish rugby team from all of us here in Kilbride National School and we wish you all luck in your summer tour of Australia!

Life Cycle of a Butterfly

And we have butterflies! First and Second Class have been watching our caterpillars grow, change into pupas and now all five of them have changed into butterflies. We have been feeding them flowers and giving them sugar and water. We are going to be setting them free tomorrow. We have also been hard at work thinking of names for our five butterflies! Well done First and Second Class on a very successful Science experiment!

School Tour

The children in First and Second Class had a great day at their school tour to Navan Adventure Centre on Friday, 8th June 2018. They took part in lots of different activities! Thank you to everyone in Navan Adventure Centre for ensuring that we had an amazing day!

We have been working very hard in First and Second this week. All the children have completed their Drumcondra Reading Test and their Drumcondra Spelling Test. PHEW! They have also been learning all about the Life Cycle of  a Butterfly, watching our caterpillars change before our very eyes and creating our very own butterflies! The children have also started to read their novel Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl with Mrs. Crosby. We are also busy learning our dance for our big dance performance in June. We also started training lessons in hurling, which we love! We were busy designing posters in support of our amazing boys football team who are playing in the final on Saturday. We have been busy working in groups doing a project on Poland. Finally, we have been doing a lot of revision this week in Maths in preparation for our SIGMA T Tests. Keep up all your amazing hard work First and Second Class!

The children in First and Second really enjoyed their Hurling training today. They learned lots of new skills. They really enjoyed this today and are really looking forward to our next lesson next Wednesday!

Our butterflies have all made their way up to the top of the cup today to hang down in preparation for turning into pupas or chrysalis. We are so excited here in First and Second to see what happens to our caterpillars next ????

We have gone butterfly crazy here in First and Second Class. We are really enjoying learning about the life cycle of a butterfly and we are waiting in anticipation for our caterpillars to turn into chrysalises and then into butterflies! Congratulations to all the children in Second Class who made their First Holy Communion on Saturday. You all did a great job. Mrs. Crosby is so proud of you all!

The children in First and Second Class are busy learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. We are growing our own butterflies! The caterpillars arrived in the post yesterday. We are busy watching the caterpillars grow. We will keep you updated with their development!????

The children in First and Second Class really enjoyed their dancing classes with Kevin today. They had so much fun! We are really looking forward to Kevin’s visit again next week.

The children in First and Second really enjoyed all the activities that they took part in today with Aura. This week is all about being active in Kilbride National School and the children are really enjoying being active!

April 23^rd – 27^th

*Hot Potato Rules:

• Aim to keep the ball/balloon off the ground using only your hands. This is in the form of a volleyball shot. Treat it like a hot potato. See how many times you can hit it before it drops to the ground.
• Too hard? – Catch and pass the ball/balloon each time rather than hitting it. Aim to make this as fast as possible and build up to hitting it each time.
• Too easy? – Call out the letters of the alphabet as you hit the ball/balloon. If the ball/balloon hits the ground start again at the letter A. Try to get to Z as quickly as possible.

The children have all received their prayers so that they can practice at home. They have also stuck prayers into their Religion copies that they need to learn at home (This is part of the everyday homework next week!)

They have also been busy this week doing some art work for the church. They decorated their own chalice and  they started work on a stained glass window picture today. Keep up the great work Second Class. We are all so excited for our very special day.

Congratulations to Ryan and Michael from First Class and Pearce and Kate from Second Class who won the Write A Poem Competition this year. They wrote excellent poems about the topic My World. These four children will attend an awards ceremony in Navan Education Centre on Tuesday, 15th May 2018 at 10:30am. Mrs. Crosby is so proud of all of the children in First and Second Class for their hard work in writing their poems for this competition. We are all so happy in First and Second Class for Michael, Ryan, Kate and Pearce!

Well done to all the children in First and Second Class (and their parents!) for the excellent creativity shown today in the vast selection of Easter Bonnets. Mrs. Crosby found it extremely hard choosing just one finalist from our classroom. The Easter Bonnets this year were amazing. Well done to everyone. Congratulations to Jennifer for making the final of this competition! On behalf of Mrs. Crosby and all of First and Second Class we would like to wish everyone a very Happy Easter!

Congratulations to Scott and Kate who have been put forward from First and Second Class for their excellent handwriting as part of the INTO / An Post Handwriting Competition. It was very hard to choose just one entry from each class as all the children worked very hard at their handwriting. Well done to Scott and Kate!

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day from Mrs. Crosby and all of First and Second Class!

Paddy Madden visited Kilbride National School today. The children in First and Second Class really enjoyed their time with him learning all about animals and nature. They also enjoyed exploring all the resources that Paddy brought to school with him. Thank you Paddy Madden for coming to visit us today and teach us lots of interesting facts about animals and nature!

The children all enjoyed making their Shamrock Men today in First and Second Class. They had to colour all the different parts, cut all the parts out and put them all together to make a Shamrock Man! Happy Saint Patrick’s Day to everyone from Mrs. Crosby and all the children in First and Second Class!

Well done to all the children in Second Class on making their First Confession tonight. You all did an amazing job! Mrs. Crosby is so proud of you all. Thank you to Mrs. Murphy, Ms. Kealey and to everyone who sang in the choir. The singing was beautiful! The countdown is now on until we make our First Holy Communion!

We have started the “Stay Safe Programme” in First and Second Class this week. The children have been talking this week about the topics of feeling safe and unsafe, our feelings and friendship. We have also learned the Stay Safe Rule; Say No, Get Away, Tell Someone, Keep Telling. We will be talking about the topics of friendship, bullying and touches next week. The children have been working and listening really hard this week. Keep up the great work First and Second Class!

First Confession practice is well underway in Second Class. The children know all their prayers now for the First Confession and they have all received their reading for this very important event in their lives. All the children in Second Class have also prepared their sins for their First Confession. We are all so excited to take this very important step in preparing for our First Holy Communion!

The children in First and Second Class had a lot of fun today playing with the parachute as part of the strand unit “Outdoor and Adventure” in Physical Education. We had a great laugh and so much fun!

The children in First and Second Class had a great day of drumming today. They enjoyed all the activities that Dave did this week. The are really excited about Dave coming back to teach them more rhythms next week!

We have had a busy and great week celebrating Friendship Week here in First and Second Class. We have been buying Friendship Bracelets off Mrs. Crosby all week to support the charity Amnesty International. We all chose a secret friend on Monday and all was revealed today, Friday the 9th of February 2018! We are all really happy with our little present from our secret friend. We also listened to the song “Gift of a Friend” by Demi Lovato as this was the song of the week. Some of us created Friendship Week posters. We talked in class about what it means to be a good friend. We created a friendship checklist. We listened to a friendship story called Don’t Hog The Hedge. We signed a friendship contract. First and Second Class learned the poem “A Golden Chain”. We created a Friendship Hand where all our friends signed the hand. Each child in First and Second Class made a link for our Friendship Chain. On Friday, First and Second Class had a friendship party where we got to sit, play and chat with our friends. Finally, for art on Friday to end the week we all made Valentine’s Cards for our family at home. We are all really good friends here in First and Second Class!

The children in First and Second Class had a great day today celebrating their grandparents. They did a great job at preparing their cards for their grandparents throughout the week. They took part in a lovely ceremony for their grandparents before bringing their grandparents to the table that they prepared for a tea party. A great day was had by everyone! It was great to see the delight on all their faces getting to show their grandparents where they go to school! Well Done First and Second Class on all your hard work preparing for this very special day!

Second Class paid a visit to SuperValu in Trim today as part of the Super Troopers Programme. They had a great visit. They got to try lots of fruit! We even got a behind the scenes tour of the bakery where all the yummy cakes, buns and bread are made. The children got to see the large fridges and ovens used in the making of the bread. They also got to see how the buns are decorated. We got to bring back some yummy treats which we enjoyed back at the school!

Today as part of Catholic Schools Week, in First and Second Class we continued to discuss our parish. We then went onto talk about how we can care for our world and how we can share with our world. The children did a lot of talking this week about our family at home, our family in school, our parish and looking at the whole world as family also. They also did a lot of work in their Religion copies. Well done First and Second Class. Keep up the great work!

Today we celebrated St. Bridget. We learned about her life. We also looked at the story of St. Bridget’s cloak. Fifth and Sixth Class came down to help us make our St. Bridget’s crosses. Everyone went home with a cross – made from either reeds or from paper! We then said the Prayer to St. Bridget. We also talked about our parish today in First and Second Class.

Today in First and Second Class we continued talking about our family at home and our family at school. We also started talking about St. Bridget in preparation for her feast day which occurs tomorrow, Thursday the 1st February 2018. Finally, we said a prayer to St. Bridget as a whole class.

 The topic for discussion today in First and Second Class was “Our School Family”. We talked about how we are all connected in a special way here in Kilbride National School. We talked about the different activities that we take part in here in school. We discussed how we treat each other at school. The children then drew a picture of the school in their religion copy, they drew a picture of their favourite game in school and then they wrote a little prayer for Our School Family. Finally, we said a prayer together for our school family.

This week we are celebrating Catholic Schools Week in Kilbride National School. The topic for discussion in First and Second Class today was “Our Family At Home”. We spoke about how every family is different and we talked about our family that we live with at home. We learned about Pope Francis’ family. We also learned that family and the love in families in very important to Pope Francis. We took time today to look at a picture of the Holy Family. We spoke as a whole class at what we thought family life would have been like for Mary, Joseph and Jesus. Finally, we said a prayer for our family.

First and Second Class have been working very hard this week. As well as doing English, Irish, Maths and Religion everyday the children have been learning all about the Chinese New Year and China, why water and oil do not mix, completing their bookmark for the World Book Day competition, completing their posters for the “Buckle Up” and “Be Safe, Be Seen” RSA Competiton, dancing and taking part in 10 @ 10! Phew! And that is just some of the work we have been doing this week!! Keep up the great work First and Second Class! Mrs. Crosby is so proud of you all.

The children in First and Second Class have been very busy writing reports on their favourite animals. All the children did a great job on their reports! Well done First and Second Class!

Final rehersal of “It’s A Baby” before the big show tonight! The children are so excited to perform this for everyone! It promises to be a great show!

Practice is well and truly underway in First and Second Class in preparation for our Nativity play called “It’s A Baby”. The children have all been given their parts and are really excited about performing it for their parents. The Christmas Nativity / Christmas Grotto is on in Kilbride National School on Thursday, 14th December 2017 at 4pm sharp! ????
