Welcome back to school to all the children in First Class! I am very lucky to have such a lovely class of boys and girls in my first year in Kilbride National School. They have made me feel very welcome and I have really enjoyed getting to know them all. Have a look at our page to see some of the activities we have gotten up to so far!
Over the last month, we have been learning and preparing our Christmas play: Ralph the Reindeer. The children have worked very hard learning their lines, practising all of the songs, and getting our props ready. We had our dress rehearsal today and performed for the whole school. The children can't wait to perform for their families tomorrow!
We have been very busy with lots of winter and Christmas art this month. First, we painted snowy pine trees.
Next, we made mini Christmas trees to hang on our Christmas trees! We made them using clay and painted them once dry.
Last week we drew pictures of Rudolph and painted them using paint sticks.
We had an action-packed Science Week in First Class. We carried out a Materials Investigation - the children tested materials to see which would make the best shoes for my dogs, to keep their paws dry!
We presented the results of our experiments to Second Class, which was very exciting. We presented the findings of our Materials Investigation, explained and demonstrated a Lava Lamp Experiment that we had done, and carried out a Fingerprint Investigation with the help of Second Class.
We were very grateful to be invited to Second and Third Class to see their exciting experiments, and the Fifth and Sixth class to learn about their brilliant Science projects.
The children are working very hard since we have come back to school. This month, we are learning all about different types of homes in SESE. We used card and paper to create homes for our Art lesson this week.
We really enjoyed our last day together before Halloween break. There were lots of spooky characters in our classroom today!
This week was Maths Week - we did lots of fun activities in class and took part in a whole-school Maths Trail.
The children brought in Maths games on Friday. We set the games up as stations and had great fun playing them all.
We have been very busy getting our classroom ready for Halloween. First, we created a spooky pumpkin patch! The children painted their pumpkins and added scary details once dry.
This week we learned about our artist of the month Vincent Van Gogh. We looked at and discussed his most famous paintings, and his style. The children created Halloween versions of his Starry Night - Spooky Night!
We are learning about procedural writing this month. This week, we wrote steps explaining how to make a witch's brew. First, we examined a witch's brew poem and found the bossy verbs. Then we wrote and presented our own - there were some very scary ingredients!
This week we are learning about 2-D shapes in Maths. The children went on a shape hunt in our classroom. We found all of the shapes in lots of different places and sizes. The children were experts at finding them!
The children worked together to create pictures using 2-D shapes made from lollipop sticks.
We learned all about our five senses. We carried out investigations to see what we could identify using our senses. The children had great fun testing each other!
The children in First Class have completed lots of amazing artwork so far this year - there are lots of very creative students in this class! They drew self-portraits using oil pastels.
We learned all about An Zú as Gaeilge. The children then chose their favourite zoo animals and drew them using oil pastels. Look how well they turned out!
