Newsletter 22nd October 2012

The Senior children really enjoyed the writer’s workshop which took place last Thursday in Trim Library. Many thanks to those parents who contributed to the Guess the Score fundraiser, which covered the cost of the bus.

Well done to the children who have set up a set club in the school. Congratulations to the young players who learned how to play chess last week, and thanks to the volunteers who taught them the rules and strategies!

Many fun maths activites and games took place last week in every classroom. Please see the website for some reviews of Maths Week and for links to some fun games!

W5 Science Visit

On the 8th November (Thursday following the mid-term break), the team of Scientists from W5 museum in Belfast will be visiting the school. There will be an interactive show as well as group challenges for the children.

Halloween Events

Everyone is looking forward to a fun-filled Friday on the 26th October. Every child is invited to come to school in their fancy dress costume for the Halloween Fashion Parade.

The bake sale will take place from 1.15pm-2.15pm in Ms Heary’s classroom, and the Jumble sale will be taking place in Ms McArdle’s room. All parents and children are invited to attend. Tea and coffee will also be kindly provided by the Parents Association.

The teachers are now accepting any games or puzzles (complete sets), toys, dolls, books and teddies that are clean and unbroken for the jumble sale. All monies raised will be put towards the W5 Science event and for musical instruments for the school. We hope to buy sets of chime bars for children in Junior Infants-Second Class.

We are asking that all families bring in buns and cakes for the bake sale. We are hoping for a big attendance at the Bake Sale this Friday. This was a great success last year due to big effort put in by everyone. We hope that this will be a great success this year and we hope that everyone can attend.

Raffle

There will be a Spooky Halloween Cake Raffle taking place in the school on Friday also. The teachers have raffle tickets available to purchase in the school. The tickets cost €1 for one strip, or €2 for 3 strips. Best of luck!

Music Lessons

Music lessons will begin in the school after the Midterm Break. Ms Heary will be teaching 5th and 6th class how to play the guitar. 3rd and 4th class will also be given the opportunity to participate in guitar lessons after Christmas.

The book fair will be taking place during the week of the 12th November. The Junior Infant and Senior Infant Parents will be invited to visit the Book Fair from 1.30pm-2.30pm, and the Parents from children in 1st-6th class will be invited in from 2.30pm-3pm.
